The Food Processing Industry Kills

Let’s face it, corporations are killing us slowly in the name of profit. You do not need to look very far to see it in action. Have you ever wondered why Tim Horton’s coffee is so darn good? Well, it’s not the flavour that makes you go back. It is the addiction to the sugar intake. On their website, they conveniently illustrate the amount of sugar if you were to drink it black. This does not happen! As soon as you open the gates to adding sugar, the impact is devastating. Look at this chart (by

  • A large Tim Hortons double double contains 7.5 teaspoons of sugar, 8 grams of saturated fat, and 264 calories
  • A medium Tim Hortons french vanilla contains 10 teaspoons of sugar, 9 grams of saturated fat, and 310 calories
  • A large Starbucks pumpkin spice latte contains 15.5 teaspoons of sugar, 12 grams of saturated fat, and 510 calories
  • A medium Starbucks cafe mocha contains 8.75 teaspoons of sugar, 11 grams of saturated fat, and 400 calories

I am no sugar expert, but this seems to be ridiculous! 7.5 teaspoons? What, are we making coffee brownies meant for the oven? It is appalling that they do this. I have completely given up on Tim Horton’s for this very reason. There is nothing healthy about this place. This world needs a drive-thru that offers nutrition, not death.

1.6 million more people will get diabetes by 2025. That is a sad statement. We can do something about this by educating the world about the dangers sugar. Stop buying Timmie’s, stop feeding into their need for profit.

Here is a list of ingredients that are considered toxic. DO NOT EAT them. (Referenced from Huffington Post).

Shortening – clog arteries and increase risk of metabolic syndrome

Hydrogenated oil – Causes obesity

White processed foods – Refined whole grains have their nutrients sucked out to add shelf life

Corn Syrup – Boosts fat storing hormones, drives overeating. STAY CLEAR.

Artificial Sweeteners – Aspartame, sacchrin, and sucralose may be even worse on the system than regular sugar. You think they are healthier, but they are not.

Sodium Benzoate – Preservatives that are added to soda. It is a known carcinogen that causes thyroid damage. Dangerous levels of benzene can build up when plastic bottles of soda are near a heat source.

Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) – Cancer causing potential. It is meant to prevent spoilage of food, but it really messes with hormones. It has many aliases, so the best bet is to ditch processed foods altogether.

Sodium Nitrate and Sodium Nitrites – Found in processed mets. Cause colon cancer and metabolic syndrome, which can lead to diabetes.

Artificial Colours – Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow – Thyroid, Adrenal, Bladder, Kidney, and brain cancers. Always seek out food with the fewest artificial chemicals.

MSG (Monosodium Glutamate – Processed flavour enhancer. Present in some natural foods. High levels of MSG has shown to mess with brain chemistry.

There you have it. A shortlist of chemicals to stay away from. The moral of this article is to stay away from processed goods. Don’t eat anything that has these chemicals in it.

#1: ConAgra Foods

ConAgra was found guilty for violations at their food processing plants. DO NOT use their products. They have been proven to be killing people with their products due to toxic ingredients.

In 2003, it was revealed that for two years, ConAgra had been poisoning Americans with E.coli-tainted beef, which the USDA was complicit in covering up.

#2: General Mills

Trisodium Phosphate (also known as TSP) is an additive and flavor enhancer found in thousands of frozen and processed foods, including kids’ cereals. It also happens to be an ingredient that was used in industrial cleaners. GM states: “In our food products we use very small amounts [of TSP]”. Phew! Only a small amount of poison, thank God!

Up until just this year, General Mills’ foods also used BHT, or butylated hydroxytoluene, which animal tests have proven to be toxic.

#3: Kraft Foods

Kraft uses Yellow N0. 6, which is linked to hyperactivity, asthma, skin conditions and even cancer. They also hide the presence of GMOs.

#4: Heinz

Heinz recently lost a lawsuit over false advertising. They’ve been busy lying to the public by labeling products made from GMOs as all natural. Whether you tolerate GMOs in your food or not, the fact is that this company has a proven track record of lying to the public.

Furthermore, Heinz products contain the following ingredients: tomato concentrate made from non-organic tomatoes, distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), corn syrup, salt, and variety of spices and flavorings. Each squirt of that classic ketchup contains pesticides, HFCS (a neurotoxin), a particularly unhealthy type of sugar, and table salt, which dehydrates the body and depletes minerals.

You don’t have to stop eating ketchup—just switch to a healthy organic brand. The same goes for all of these foods.

#5: Campbell’s Soup Company

Campbell’s has been sued for hiding the presence of GMOs and for labeling foods as low-sodium when they contain as much salt as regular products. The average cup of Campbell’s soup contains a staggering 850mg of sodium. Unless that’s your only major meal of the day, consuming it means you’re risking heart attacks, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Just as importantly, if not more so, is the fact that for many decades, Campbell’s has lined its epoxy-resin cans with the toxic chemical, bisphenol A (BPA). “BPA has been linked in lab studies to breast and prostate cancer, infertility, early puberty in girls, type-2 diabetes, obesity, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.”

#6: Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola uses a food coloring agent; E952, or Sodium Cyclamate, a synthetic sugar substitute that was actually banned by the FDA in 1969 and then inexplicably reinstated by WHO a decade later; E950, or Acesulfame Potassium, which is 200 times sweeter than sugar, very addictive, and is bad for the cardiovascular and nervous system; E951, or aspartame, a sugar substitute that has been linked to brain tumors, MS (Multiple Sclerosis), epilepsy, Graves’ disease, chronic fatigue, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, mental deficiency and tuberculosis; E338, or Orthophosphoric Acid, which can cause irritation of the skin and eyes; and E211, or Sodium Benzoate, a compound that, according to one study, damages human DNA.

#7: Nestlé

You would protect your baby at all costs, right? Nestlé is one of three companies using GMOs in their infant formula. Okay, so maybe you want to trust corporate-paid scientists about the safety of GMOs— but Nestlé also has the additional track record of using traces of the industrial poison melamine. For context, this is the same chemical that sickened at least 50,000 Chinese infants in 2008.

#8: Kellogg’s

The company actually doubled down and its products now contain 100% GMO corn that contains traces of glyphosate and BT toxins.

#9: PepsiCo

Pepsi Cp. still uses methylimidazole or 4-Mel, which is linked to cancer.


#10: Hershey’s

Found to have unsafe levels of lead – neurological damage and learning disabilities. Also found to have cadamium, which causes reproduction harm and damage to the liver, kidneys, and bones.

I think it is in our best interest to stop buying any of the above products. Let’s work together on forcing companies to meet our demands of eating healthy foods that cannot kill us.

Above all, I commend the author for pulling no punches and naming names (i.e., for identifying the “rogue’s gallery” of major corporations that feed us poison).
